Have you seen the Chevy Traverse commercial with the kids running to the car in the rain? Over the past few weeks, I’ve seen this commercial dozens of times and the song always gets stuck in my head. Take a minute and listen to this song. Hopefully, it will brighten your day with this rainy weather we’re having.
“It’s raining, it’s pouring. But I ain’t complaining because I love the rain.”
I’m not a very poetic person most times, so I’m just going to say what I think here. Sometimes things suck, that’s life. You have to make the best of it. If you sit around and feel sorry for yourself, you’re never going to get anywhere. You have to take risks and advantage of opportunities when they are presented to you, but don’t just sit around waiting for something either. Go out and do something with your life. Be confident about it. You might fail, but you never know what could happen. A long time ago, one of my good friends advised me to always give 100% of my effort without question. If you fail, at least you have the satisfaction knowing you tried. It’s kind of what I live by now. It might sound kind of cheesy, but it works for some people.
There will always be people who try to get you down – but you have to remember to be the positive one. There must be a reason for their actions and afterall, you can’t control what anybody else does. You can only control yourself & how you react. Let it go. Focus on what matters.
What makes you happy that won’t fail? For some people it’s running or exercise, or maybe its another person like their children or spouse, but everyone has something awesome that makes them happy. What’s yours?
I just read this short, but sorta inspirational, post from Zen Habits called “The elements of change.” Leo makes a lot of good points and while I would love anyone reading this to go read his post, I know that’s not so realistic. So, here is a bit of the post that I found most note-worthy:
“3. Finding the joy. Here is the key to it all. Forget the rest of these steps if you need to, but never forget this one. Doing something you hate is possible, for a little while, but you’ll never sustain it. If you hate running, you’ll never keep up the habit for long. You need to find the joy in doing the activity, and when you do, you’re golden. So either choose an activity that you love, or find something to love in the activity, and grab on to that.”
People struggle throughout their lives to find what they are truly passionate about. They end up working 9-5 jobs because it pays the bills, but not because they love it. Sometimes you have no other option than working that job you hate, which is why I think it’s important to find something about your job/life/activity that you love and embrace it.
If you haven’t already found something you love doing, or you want to add to it, take a few minutes today to try something new. Don’t stress about how you’re going to perform, the most important thing is just to try. If you fail - you learn.
